We recently had the honour of a Mossburn-tasting thanks to the @dramsncigarsclub and @christophalbietz. While Mossburn was less well-known to us we were absolutely stunned by the quality of their bottlings. One highlight in particular was this single cask @jurawhisky.
_
Distilled in 1993, it is almost a relic of another era, a part of living history. It was matured in a classic bourbon hogshead for 28 years, so that it has a remarkable complexity. But still, the distillate and Jura’s own character came through – although some would disagree on that point.

Anyway, in the opinion of the majority of the tasters, this fine single malt beat out a 22yo Springbank, also in cask strength, so that tells you a lot about its quality.

No, seriously. Somehow, within the last 10 years all major American distilleries decided to use green labels for most of their new rye whiskes. Even some older rye brands redesigned their labels according to that new colour coding. Maybe it is the herb and menthol notes found in most ryes?

Since our last post was a very exotic rye, we come back to a very traditionally made rye whisky @woodfordreserve . With just enough rye in the mash bill to legally quality as rye, it is a representative of many Kentucky style ryes. And it is well done. If you like rye and bourbon, you cannot go wrong here.
